5 tricks to prepare your next travel foodie trip

travel foodie

As a black travel foodie, I want my Instagram page to look the most aesthetic as possible with finger licking dishes as well as some travel and cocktail pictures. Basically, anyone who through my page should feel a glimpse of what I’ve experienced through my trip and want to do the same. So how do i make that happen ?

The are a couple of things that I do while preparing for my trip :

1. Choosing the accomodation

Personally, I would choose a hotel with a specific décor and soul. I want to share an experience so going to a basic hotel will not work. That is why I like the small luxury hotel group because they always choose the cutest hotels with great customer service and awesome décor. The Design hotels group is also not bad. Going through these groups gives you a certain guaranty in terms of quality and customer service that you would not necessarily find just by reading comments and checking rates.

2. Choosing the restaurants and bars

Here, I am talking about regular to fancy restaurants and bars that have an account on Facebook to the least. They are a list of things you can check to see which one you would go for :

  • Check famous food website like the fork or timeout. They give rates and customers make their comments so it’s a good way of checking. I don’t always trust these websites because there are still subjective, so I make a first list based on the websites and cross check them with the next methods.
  • Check on Instagram people that tagged their restaurant : they may not have an Instagram account but if the food is good, they are chances people would have tagged their location. Have a look through the pictures, at the décor, and the food presentation. Personally, I like edgy presentations or very authentic with delicious looking plates.
  • Read recommendations from travel foodie bloggers : this field, so they probably know what they are talking about !

Honestly, I don’t always do this ! This list is just the safest way, but sometimes just a beautiful website with fantastic pictures gets me sold ! That is why always a bit sceptical when a restaurant has no online presence.

3. Choosing what to wear

Okat this section might be more for ladies, but actually could help some gentlemen as well ! To make your picture more attractive, it’s usually advice to be in the picture. And if you’re in the picture you need make sure you blend in the right way ! For example, if you are going to a beautiful coffee shop with pastel flowers and greeneries you do not want wear a black leather jacket as it would give an impression that you are cold, and visually would not be nice to see. Look at the style of interiors and plan your outfit accordingly ! Now you don’t have to do it for all of them, but I would advise you to do it for those with a decor that stands out !

4. Choosing where to go for your travel pictures

Now for this part, I’m using a technique that I was thought in Christina Galbato’s Influencer bootcamp. Is basically to go in hashtags of the city where you are going and saving the pictures, you would get the inspiration board of your next trip ! Based on that you can pick the places that reappear several times and those that you also like. To make you are not missing out on anything must see places, you can also cross check with articles from bloggers that have already been there.

5. Schedule everything you picked above in a spreadsheet

Now you will tell me you don’t use Excel, you don’t like working in tables. Don’t worry ! A pen and paper are enough ! This is my husband iand I have been using for our trips since day one !

This allows us to remember where and what we are supposed to do in a day. Sometimes with the tiredness and the heat you might forget where you are supposed to go, so it’s always good to have a plan ! You don’t have to follow everything but at least it gives you a reference as to what to do. Especially if they are places that you have to go to in at Sunrise, you would not stay out late the night beefore for example !

As an influencer, you should be able to pitch restaurants and hotels by sending your media kit (do so one two months in davance). This what I was though Christina Galbato’s Influencer bootcamp. Otherwise, make sure you book them early enough (at least two weeks before and put your booking time in the trip palnning.

I hope with this guideline you will be able to tackle your next travel foodie trip easily !
